Painted Mark Wilkinson Kitchen
This painted Mark Wilkinson Kitchen in the West Midlands, is set in the beautiful village of Henley in Arden a few miles from Solihull. It was recently re-painted by Russ, one of our specialist kitchen painters.
Very much a working kitchen, this Mark Wilkinson ‘Cooks Kitchen‘ was the focal point for all the family to meet, cook, eat and chat around the large dining table centred to the main kitchen cabinets. Unfortunately, there was very little natural light, despite the large full height glazed windows adjacent to the main entrance, which was North facing.
Mary the owner, explained that they had purchased the kitchen direct from Mark Wilkinson some 15 years ago and although it was still serving their purposes well, it was in need of some TLC. After having it re-painted several years ago and again recently, when she engaged the services of a local kitchen painter but then asked him to stop what he was doing and leave on the first day due to his unprofessional approach and apparent lack of knowledge in painting bespoke kitchens.
Hiring a Professional

Russ is a traditional painter and has been honing his craft skills for 38 years hand painting kitchens and restoring furniture since the mid 80s. A City & Guilds Advanced Craftsman who is also a qualified Painting and Decorating Lecturer, Trainer and Assessor for NVQ Advanced Craft level 3 and for assessing competence in the work environment up to NVQ level 4. Passing his knowledge and experience on to students and peers over the years, near and far! He has also trained in furniture restoration, historic building conservation, decorative paint effects and finishes and the installation and restoration of (LINCRUSTA) historical wall coverings. With dozens of testimonials and a back catalogue of very happy clients.
Simply a fantastic job on my old but expensive and much loved Mark Wilkinson kitchen. Such attention to detail and persistence with a couple of tricky bits. It’s like a new kitchen. I really can’t recommend Russ highly enough.

Preparation and Painting
In need of some serious prep and attention, the last lot of painting carried out on this kitchen left a lasting impression for all the wrong reasons.
After removing all the doors and draws and taking them back to the workshop. Russ decided to machine sand them all to ensure a perfect base before the application of any paints. There was also lots of filling to minor chips and dents from years of wear and tear. But also poorly applied previous paint finishing!
Russ and the team at HPKUK ( some 20+ members nationwide) have all invested heavily over the years, in the best preparation and painting equipment. With dust free sanding from FESTOOL and MIRKA, to portable racking systems for storing doors during the painting process. To the finest quality brushes or spray equipment if and when required… having the very best tools and equipment for the job in hand.
Once all the preparation is complete, its time to apply some primer. The specialist paint systems we use are tried and tested. Literally 1000s of kitchens have received the same proven process over the years. With full technical support from the manufacturers, we can offer a care and maintenance guide on completion to ensure your freshly painted kitchen remains in tip top condition.
The chosen colour for this kitchen was in an equivalent colour to Farrow and Ball ‘White Tie‘ which is a yellow based neutral that brings warmth to a room but also adds a lighter feel.

This painted Mark Wilkinson kitchen wasn’t some significant transformation by way of a dramatic colour change, as are so many nowadays. No deep striking blues or blacks. This was more of a testament to our practices and beliefs by taking tired old kitchens and returning them back into their original pristine condition. Carrying out thorough and meticulous preparation and using the very best materials available.
