Painting Kitchen Cabinets: Spice up your kitchen

Painting kitchen cabinets can be one of the biggest decisions to make in a interior home decor project. Whilst preparing your favourite curry with the turmeric and coriander being drizzled in and that extra sprinkle of crushed ground chilies, you’re wanting to give it it a kick, right? But what about giving the room you’re cooking in some zest! Transfer those culinary skills into some interior decor and bring to life that tired looking kitchen.

Don’t be afraid to play around with colour, with the right ingredients it can be very rewarding and totally transformational. Once you get the taste, you wont want to stop! Grey’s and Blues have been and still are very popular, two tone works well with lighter wall units and darker bases, vibrant central islands if you are fortunate enough to own one and earthy colours… green tones are in!

Give your kitchen a kick in 2020!

We’ve compiled a handful of our favourites that some of our bespoke kitchen painters have carried out over the past year, to give you some inspiration. Pick a colour any colour?

Kitchen Cabinet Painter Lancashire

Preston based Jason Walker and his team at JS Decor carried out a flawless paint makeover to this beautiful looking kitchen.

Painted Kitchen Cabinets Somerset

Our very own Lindsay created this hot looking central Island and painted kitchen makeover using the equivalent colours to F&B Pointing to the main kitchen units and Rectory Red for the central island. This job was in Bath, Somerset.

Black Kitchen Cabinets Derbyshire

It takes a brave decision to paint a kitchen black but the client in this next kitchen at Quorndan in Derbyshire, knew exactly what they wanted.

This was a total transformation with parts of the kitchen being removed and replaced, together with new leather effect granite work-surfaces.

I’ve thrown this into the mix for some extra colouring. An early 19th century coat and hat stand restored to its former glory but with a twist of french yellow. It also showcases the diverse skills of our bespoke kitchen painters.

Kitchen Makeover Preston North

There’s many a spicy dish made in the North West and this is another fine example of a striking contrasting kitchen from JS Decor in Preston.

Add a splash of Green

Green is a great colour to use in a painted kitchen and is the latest colourtrend for re-discovering those tired cabinet doors or central islands. This kitchen was painted in equivalent colours to Little Green Paints (Obsidian Green) to the island with a contrasting back drop of (Portland Stone) to the main units.

Olive greens have been traditionally suited to country style kitchens in the past but can also work with a more modern shaker style door. Greens also go great with wood work-surfaces.

Hot! Spanish Kitchen Makeover

A stunning makeover using dark colours to this kitchen in Malaga Spain, carried out by Sam Bailey ‘The Painted Kitchen’

Painted Kitchen Nottingham

This painted kitchen in Nottingham, although not so spicy in colour, cool cabinets add a fresh new look as did this combination with this canopy painted in the equivalent colour to F&B Brassica against a light stone colour on the main units.

Choosing Handles and Knobs

Handles are the final touch to kitchen cabinets, whether their style is traditional, contemporary or somewhere in between. They come in all kinds of materials and finishes and can really help to establish the style and mood of the space.

When choosing handles and knobs, it’s important to make sure they are good quality and are well designed. Think about how many times you open and close the cabinet doors and drawers in your kitchen. You will want your handles to be as comfortable as they are stylish.

Test out the handles you intend to buy. Hold one against your cabinet doors and check how easy they are to grip and how they feel in your hand. Also ensure the handles have the right grip for those using the kitchen – such as those with bigger hands or older people who may have arthritis in their fingers.

Finally, ask your supplier which material the handles are made from and what warranty they carry.
